Indiana Women’s Basketball Lands Former McDonald’s All-American

Posted on April 15, 2025

The Indiana Hoosiers women’s basketball program scored a major offseason victory by securing a commitment from former McDonald’s All-American Zania Socka-Nguemen from the NCAA transfer portal. The 6-foot-4 forward, who previously played at Texas, brings elite talent, size, and high-level experience to an Indiana roster looking to remain competitive in the Big Ten and nationally.

Socka-Nguemen, a native of Quebec, Canada, was one of the top recruits in the country coming out of high school. She chose Texas over a host of elite programs but saw limited playing time in a crowded Longhorns frontcourt. With two years of eligibility remaining, she enters Bloomington with a fresh opportunity to make a significant impact.

Head coach Teri Moren praised the addition, highlighting Socka-Nguemen’s versatility, rebounding ability, and defensive presence. “Zania is exactly the type of player we’ve been looking for—athletic, smart, and hungry to compete,” Moren said in a statement. “She’ll add toughness and depth to our frontcourt immediately.”

The Hoosiers are retooling following the graduation of All-American forward Mackenzie Holmes and several key contributors. Socka-Nguemen’s arrival fills a critical need in the post, giving Indiana a shot-blocking, rim-running big who can match up well against the physicality of the Big Ten.

Off the court, Socka-Nguemen is known for her leadership and academic discipline, aligning with the Hoosiers’ culture. Her commitment is not only a recruiting win but a sign of Indiana’s growing appeal to top-tier transfer talent.

With Socka-Nguemen now on board, the Hoosiers’ 2025-26 roster is shaping up as a balanced and dangerous unit. Fans can expect her to be a major contributor as Indiana looks to build on its recent success and push for another deep NCAA Tournament run.
