Florida State football has landed a significant addition to its defensive roster with the transfer of former four-star recruit Jarvis Boatwright Jr. The talented defensive back is making the move from the University of Southern California (USC) to the Seminoles, bringing elite skills and a triumphant presence to the team’s secondary.

Boatwright, a standout from Clearwater, Florida, was a highly sought-after prospect in the 2023 recruiting class. Known for his speed, versatility, and football IQ, he was initially committed to Florida State before flipping to USC late in the recruiting process. After one season with the Trojans, the dynamic defensive back has chosen to return home to play under head coach Mike Norvell and defensive coordinator Patrick Surtain Sr.

At 6-foot and around 190 pounds, Boatwright is expected to compete for a starting role in a secondary already brimming with talent and ambition. His ability to play both safety and cornerback adds much-needed flexibility to Florida State’s defensive schemes. With his familiarity with the program and a chip on his shoulder to prove himself, Boatwright’s return to Tallahassee is being viewed as both a personal homecoming and a strategic win for the Seminoles.

“This is a big-time get for us,” said Coach Norvell in a brief statement. “Jarvis brings a level of athleticism and experience that will elevate our defense immediately.”

Boatwright’s transfer highlights Florida State’s continued dominance in the transfer portal and its appeal to elite athletes looking to compete at the highest level. As the Seminoles aim to return to the College Football Playoff in 2025, additions like Boatwright will be key in making that goal a reality.
