The Indiana Hoosiers men’s basketball program is welcoming back a familiar face, as former standout Cody Zeller has been named an assistant coach under new head coach Darian DeVries.
Zeller, the 2011 Indiana Mr. Basketball and a key contributor during one of the most exciting eras in recent Hoosiers history, returns to Bloomington after a successful NBA career. Known for his leadership, basketball IQ, and work ethic, Zeller was instrumental in leading Indiana to major victories during his collegiate years, including a Sweet 16 run in 2012.
“It’s really special to welcome Cody Zeller back to Bloomington as a member of our coaching staff,” said DeVries. “He has been involved in some of the biggest wins in program history, and he will be a great presence in our locker room and on the court.”
After being selected fourth overall in the 2013 NBA Draft, Zeller spent over a decade in the league, suiting up for the Charlotte Hornets, Portland Trail Blazers, Miami Heat, and New Orleans Pelicans. His professional experience and deep understanding of the game are expected to bring valuable insight to player development and recruiting.
Zeller’s return comes at a pivotal time as DeVries looks to usher in a new era of Hoosiers basketball. His connection to the program’s legacy, combined with his firsthand experience at the highest level of the sport, is anticipated to inspire both players and fans alike.
“I’m honored to be back where it all started,” said Zeller. “Indiana basketball means so much to me, and I’m excited to help build something special with Coach DeVries and this talented group.”
