Mark Pope, head coach of the BYU men’s basketball team, recently provided an update on the recovery of point guard Kerr Kriisa from his injury. Kriisa, who transferred to BYU from Arizona, had been sidelined for several weeks after sustaining an injury earlier in the season. Coach Pope expressed cautious optimism regarding Kriisa’s progress and recovery, noting that the team has been monitoring his rehabilitation closely.
“Kerr has been working incredibly hard behind the scenes,” Pope said during a press conference. “We’re taking a measured approach to his recovery, ensuring he’s fully healed before we rush him back onto the court. His commitment to getting back to full strength is evident, and it’s encouraging to see the strides he’s making each day.”
Kriisa, a veteran of the college basketball scene, has been a key addition to BYU’s roster this season. Known for his sharpshooting and playmaking ability, Kriisa was expected to contribute immediately after transferring. The injury, however, has kept him from fulfilling that role as expected, leaving a void in BYU’s backcourt.
While Kriisa’s return timeline remains uncertain, Pope remains hopeful that the guard will be back in action soon. “We’re not going to rush him, but we are confident that once he’s ready, he’ll be able to make a significant impact for us,” Pope added.
In the meantime, BYU has been adjusting its lineup and relying on other players to step up in Kriisa’s absence. With conference play underway, the Cougars are eager for Kriisa’s return, as his leadership and experience will be crucial for their postseason aspirations.
