Nebraska Cornhuskers women’s basketball standout Alexis Markowski has etched her name in the record books yet again. The junior center was named the Clutch Player of the Year, capping off a phenomenal season that showcased her dominance, leadership, and poise in high-pressure moments.
Markowski’s award comes after a season filled with game-winning performances, including multiple double-doubles and late-game heroics that pushed Nebraska to key victories in Big Ten play. Known for her fierce presence in the paint and an unshakable mentality, she led the Huskers in both scoring and rebounding, setting a new program record for most double-doubles in a single season.
“It’s an incredible honor,” said Markowski. “I give all the credit to my teammates and coaches. We’ve worked so hard, and to see it pay off like this means everything.”
Markowski’s clutch performances were especially crucial in tight games. She averaged 9.4 points in the fourth quarter alone this season and hit two game-winning shots, including a buzzer-beater against Iowa that went viral on social media. Her ability to perform under pressure didn’t go unnoticed by voters, who praised her consistency and leadership.
In addition to the Clutch Player of the Year honor, Markowski also surpassed 1,500 career points and 1,000 rebounds—making her only the third player in Nebraska women’s basketball history to achieve the feat.
Head Coach Amy Williams called her “the heartbeat of the team,” and fans have rallied behind her, celebrating what many are calling one of the greatest seasons by a Nebraska women’s player.
With another year of eligibility remaining, Cornhusker Nation is hopeful that Alexis Markowski will continue to lead the charge—rewriting records and redefining greatness.
