The Philadelphia Phillies are approaching a critical offseason. While they are focused on the NLDS, it is tough not to consider who they might be without next season.
Kyle Schwarber, J.T. Realmuto, and Ranger Suarez will all become free agents once the playoffs complete. These are three enormous assets that have contributed significantly to Philadelphia’s success over the years.
They also have a problem at third base, with Alec Bohm performing far below average. He has not performed well offensively or defensively, and the team may try to improve in those areas during the winter.
Phillies emerge as potential landing spot for Cardinals’ star
The St. Louis Cardinals will attempt to trade Nolan Arenado this offseason. Last year, they attempted to accomplish this, but he refused to deal with the Houston Astros in order to remain in St. Louis.
He is anticipated to broaden his list of teams with which he is comfortable. With this knowledge, Redbirds Rants Josh Jacobs suggests the Phillies as a potential suitor in this situation.
“While Arenado is owed a ton of money right now, the Phillies would likely be able to acquire him at a very low payroll number, which would allow them to allocate dollars and assets elsewhere, rather than paying a pretty penny to upgrade their defense and possibly offense at third base.”
Arenado would be a definite upgrade for Philadelphia, but the final choice is up to him. Fans will be interested in following his trade market.
