The Green Bay Packers have locked in Christian Watson with a long-term extension, and he might not be the only wide receiver getting a new contract this season.
Despite trade rumors swirling around him ahead of next month’s deadline, top star appears to be nearing a sizable long-term deal that would solidify his role in the Packers’ offense and as a key target for quarterback Jordan Love.
ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler reports that a trade involving Romeo Doubs doesn’t appear to be on the horizon—and in fact, the wideout could be a key piece of the Packers’ long-term plans.
“The Packers haven’t shown any interest in moving him,” Fowler noted. “From what I’m hearing, they’re more inclined to consider a possible contract extension.”
While discussions so far have been preliminary, both sides have remained in touch, and there’s a real possibility Doubs could remain in Green Bay past the 2025 season.
If the Packers are serious about keeping Romeo Doubs long-term, it’s likely going to come at a high cost.
Should Doubs reach free agency next spring, he could be one of the most sought-after wide receivers available. However, Green Bay has the chance to lock him in before then—likely by offering a top-tier deal to secure his place alongside Christian Watson, rising rookie Matthew Golden, and the rest of the receiving unit.
With the trade deadline just a month away, Doubs’ future in Green Bay should become clearer soon.
