BREAKING NEWS: five star Guard Shock UConn with Decommitment and flip commitment to South Carolina…..

In a significant development for women’s college basketball, Agot Makeer, the No. 4-ranked recruit in the Class of 2025, has committed to the University of South Carolina, choosing the Gamecocks over the University of Connecticut (UConn) and Michigan State University.

Makeer, a 6-foot-1 guard hailing from Thunder Bay, Ontario, currently plays for Montverde Academy in Florida. Her versatility and competitive nature have been widely recognized, with Makeer herself stating, “My work ethic isn’t like a lot of the other girls in my class, and I feel like that puts me ahead sometimes.”

This commitment is a notable achievement for South Carolina’s head coach, Dawn Staley, as Makeer becomes the second top-25 recruit to join the Gamecocks for the 2025 class, alongside No. 22 Ayla McDowell from Texas.

For UConn, this marks only the second time since 2002 that the program has not signed a McDonald’s All-American for its incoming freshman class. Despite this, the Huskies have secured commitments from No. 27 Kelis Fisher, No. 73 Gandy Malou-Mamel, and Ecuadorian Blanca Quiñonez, with ESPN ranking UConn’s Class of 2025 as the No. 5 recruiting class nationally as of November.

Makeer’s decision underscores the growing competitiveness in women’s college basketball recruiting, with traditional powerhouses like UConn facing stiff competition from programs like South Carolina. Her commitment is expected to bolster the Gamecocks’ roster significantly, adding depth and versatility to their backcourt.

As the landscape of women’s college basketball continues to evolve, commitments like Makeer’s highlight the dynamic nature of recruiting and the shifting balance of power among elite

programs.
